Troy Tones Performing in Absolut A Cappella

Troy Tones Performing in Absolut A Cappella

Last week, my a cappella group Troy Tones performed in a competition held at USC called Absolut A Cappella. This competition brings in a cappella groups from USC and the surrounding LA area to compete for a coveted prize. This year, the first prize was five free hours in a recording studio and the second prize was two free hours. Since we’re currently recording our new studio album, these were very promising prizes! We have been rehearsing our set since the beginning of the semester, so we were quite prepared to compete. Check out a video of us warming up before the performance:

We ended up placing second, which was exciting because we still got some free time in the studio. And no matter what the results, I had a ton of fun. This was my last time competing with Troy Tones, but I think we went out with a bang!

The next morning we also go to sing at Celebration of the Arts held at the USC Roski School of Fine Arts. It was a really fun gig and we got to sing our Absolut set in a more relaxed setting:

On Saturday, I will be heading to London with fellow VSA Zach Gima to take part in the National Academy of Engineering Global Grand Challenges Summit. I’m very excited to be participating in this innovative event. Be sure to follow me on twitter @WJMcGarey for updates from the summit!

Until next time,

Will
