Picking a freshman dorm is one of the most exciting parts of coming to college. Your dorm is where you will interact with students of all different majors, where you’ll meet your first college friends, and where you’ll spend the majority of your time as a freshman. In picking my freshman dorm, I decided that location and living style were the most important to me, which is how I ended up in Birnkrant.
Birnkrant is a hall style dorm, which means that each floor contains two or three person rooms. Birnkrant has coed halls so there were boys and girls rooms on each floor, which was good for me because I like to socialize with both! While the dorm set up was great, my favorite part about Birnkrant was the location. Situated right in front of McCarthy Quad on the north side of campus, Birnkrant was in close proximity to Leavey Library, Doheny Library, EVK dining hall, Trojan Grounds coffee shop, and Ground Zero coffee shop. It was just a short walk to any of my studying/eating/caffeine needs!
I also really enjoyed Birnkrant because there was a such a great community of students. I met some of my best friends including my current roommate while living in Birnkrant. The RAs were always available and took us on a number of fun outings including floor dinners in Westwood and Dodgers games! I’ll always cherish the memories I made in Birnkrant, but I have plenty of other friends who lived in other freshman dorms as well. There’s really no downside to any particular dorm, it’s just based on personal preference.
