Another school year has begun and it feels pretty much the same as all the others, with the exception that I know in the back of my head it will be my last. But it’s shaping up to be the best year yet. Just being on campus again and seeing all of my friends gives me a renewed sense of confidence that this year will be everything I hoped it would be.

The job search has begun, which is both nerve wracking and exciting! I’ve been applying to a number of engineering companies, consulting companies, and even a few banks. I’m not yet sure what I want to do with my degree, so I’m going to apply to a bunch of jobs and see which offer (assuming I get at least one…) is the most intriguing.

As always, I’m taking classes! This is school after all. I’m in five classes that range from Chemical Engineering to Theatre. All seem interesting so far. Here’s a quick run down:

CHE-445: Heat Transfer- This is a continuation of Viscous Flow, which I took last semester. In this course, we are examining how heat is transmitted between surfaces and fluids and using calculus to model these processes. I get along quite well with the professor who teaches this course, so it should be a great!

CHE-444bL: Chemical Engineering Laboratory- This is the second semester version of this course, and is a simply a continuation from last semester with new labs. I had my first lab this week, examining drag coefficients of viscous fluids.

CHEM-430a: Physical Chemistry- This is the Chemistry version of a Chemical Engineering thermodynamics course I took two years ago. I think part of it will be review and part will be examining thermodynamics from a Chemistry perspective.

PTE-463L: Transport Processes of Porous Media- This course examines the ability of rocks to retain water and other fluids and how this determines their properties.

THTR-365: Playwriting- This is an introductory playwriting course for Theatre students. I am quite excited about this course because we will be reading a lot of exciting plays including Metamorphosis and Treefall. We also get to explore our imagination inventing characters and scenarios that will eventually develop into full length plays.

As always, I will be singing with the USC Troy Tones. We just recently preformed at All Hail A Cappella and had auditions. We’ll be picking our newbies up tomorrow night!

Additionally I will be acting as president of Mortar Board, a service and leadership organization on campus. We have our first meeting tonight, and I can’t wait to see what ideas everyone brings to the table for the upcoming year.

Looks like it’s shaping up to be a great year. That’s all for now!

Until next time,

Will
