Over the past several months, everyday Monday through Saturday, I’ve been rehearsing for “Chicago” the musical. After months of preparation, we’ve finally reached opening night! While I’m thrilled to be playing the part of Billy Flynn and to perform the show seven times this weekend, it’s going to be a lot of work!

The show is being produced by Cardinal Theatre Productions, a student group on campus that puts on independent musicals. Last year they produced the show “Spring Awakening.” I went to see it and had such a great time that I decided to come out and audition for “Chicago.”

Last night we had our final dress rehearsal and we invited a group of eighth graders who are interested in theatre to come view the show. Afterwards, we had a question and answer session with the group. They were very interested and asked questions about everything from the technical design to what high school for the arts they should attend in LA. It was great to interact with a group of kids whose shoes we were in just a few years ago.

Rehearsing for “Chicago” has been an amazing experience and I’m going to be really sad when it’s over. But for now, I’m excited about this weekend of shows and I hope to give my best performance possible!
