Hey guys, happy 2018! I hope you all got to┬ácelebrate ­čÖé

In light of a new year, I thought it might be cool to make a quick post about some of the 5 most important things I’ve learned in 2017.

  1. You’ve heard this before, as have I, but it’s something that was very true and very helpful for me to remember this year: don’t stress! There are so many things that you’re going to be handling at one time, and sometimes your plate is so much more full than you think you can handle, but it’s so important to keep yourself organized for your own peace of mind, and you just have to take things day by day so you don’t get overwhelmed. If you do reach a point where you can’t handle what you’ve taken on, that’s not a bad thing. Just communicate that to the people who are relying on you, and give your work your all.
  2. Take naps. I’ve never fully realized how amazing naps can be – I used to be such an advocate of 10-minute naps, but after trying out hour-long naps between classes definitely tides you over during the day if you’ve been staying up for anywhere over 16 hours a day.
  3. Don’t focus too much on what people around you are doing. Comparing yourself to others often makes you think that you’re not doing well when that might not be the case. As long as you’re holding yourself to your own standards, you’re doing great. If you think you could be doing more, work toward doing more – just as long as it’s your own decision and not based off of what you see other people doing.
  4. Take care of yourself! The one person you’re going to be with 100% of the time is also the only person you have the power to change, and of course, that person is yourself. So if you think that taking a break from doing homework on Friday nights will make you more productive over the weekend, do that! If you’d rather have Sundays off, then work hard early in the weekend. If you think you’re out of shape, maybe start going for runs or going to the gym. Just do what’s going to make you the best you possible, and I’ve learned that making that a priority is going to make you happier in the long run.
  5. Find a way to keep your thoughts organized. I love writing things down and always carry a little notebook around with me. I write any thoughts that I think are important, any elusive thoughts that I’ve been forgetting (whenever I can catch them), and anything that’s been bugging me that I want to get out and onto paper. Things like that make my mind a much tidier place. (Kinda the opposite of Spongebob’s mind when he was learning how to be a waiter…is that a weird reference?)
