Microsoft: From Internship to Full Time Offer

Shana Douglass Aerospace and Mechanical, Internship, Life After Graduation, Shana, Viterbi Orgs, Viterbi Summer

It’s official! Ya girl will be fully employed upon graduation in May!!

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve signed a full time offer to work at Microsoft as a Mechanical Engineer in the Manufacturing and Sourcing department.

It’s currently second semester of my senior and final year of college and words can not express the feeling of relief that comes when you get a job offer. No longer do you have to be stressed about being a college grad with no where to work and no way to pay off upcoming loans and bills! On the flip side senioritis has definitely set in, so instead of doing the assignments I should be, I’ll tell you how I went from 2 internships to a full time job offer.

If you haven’t already read about my internship at Microsoft last year go be sure to check it out. Not much changed in regards to the structure of the internship this summer – still awesome projects, fun non-work activities, generous day of caring, and dope intern summer gifts(this year we saw the Chainsmokers and got an Xbox)! Spontaneous team morale events boating on the lake was just the icing on the cake.

Hiking in Seattle

One of the most exciting things that I got to do this summer was travel to China for 3 weeks for my project. (Also read about the other Shayna’s adventures in China!) I had an amazing time meeting with suppliers and working on an incredible interesting and impact project (which I wish I could disclose). I traveled all over China including Xiamen, Changsha, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wuxi to name a few. I got to work with so many different people throughout the project that I wasn’t able to the previous summer.

When I wasn’t in the factory or working (which was pretty much every day), I enjoyed AMAZING food and sight saw around the cities with my fantastic manager and team. I even spent my 21st birthday in Shanghai.

By the time the trip was over, I was ready to make my way back to the states and work on my deliverable. My final presentation went great! Outside of my project, I assisted with recruitment efforts and helping with the on boarding process.

Having a year of experience and leaning all in on a complex problem allowed me to stand out and seal the job offer.

I eagerly look forward to finishing up the next semester and starting the next chapter. Stay tuned for my next post on how I’m making the most of my final semester. From chill schedules to amazing experiences around LA.
