My favorite student organization is the one that I’ve had the largest opportunity to grow in: The American Institute of Chemical Engineers!
I joined the American Institute of Chemical Engineers when I was a freshmen as a way to get to know the chemical engineers at USC outside of the classroom. At the time, I didn’t realize that an added bonus would be getting numerous mentors older than myself to help guide me through life as an undergraduate Chemical Engineer. I’ve made so many friends through this organization, many of whom I can confidently say have helped shape me into the engineer, and the person, I am today. Likewise, I love having the opportunity to get to know younger chemical engineers, and help mentor them like my friends have mentored me!
AIChE hosts numerous events geared towards Chemical Engineers ranging from social events to philanthropy to professional events. We host career workshops, information sessions, industry tours, and an annual holiday networking night, along with going out and hiking the Hollywood sign or going to Korean BBQ!
AIChE was also the first organization within which I got a leadership position. Last year, as a sophomore, I served as the marketing manager. I was responsible for managing the newsletter, website, and general communication for the organization.
This year, I’m proud to say that I’m the president of AIChE! It’s a truly rewarding and humbling experience to lead a student organization, especially one that has had as big of an impact on my time as an undergraduate student at USC as AIChE has!
