Hey USC!

Since my last few blogs have been pretty engineering focused, I wanted to take a break this week and focus on one of my favorite hobbies: photography. I’ve always been interested in photography, thanks to my dad, but I didn’t really get into it until freshman year of college. I finally got a DSLR of my own in 2015, and have been absolutely obsessed ever since. Last summer, when I was doing research at Tsinghua University in Beijing, I got the chance to go on some pretty rad international adventures (read about my internship in China here), really upping my photography portfolio in the meantime. After a summer spent developing my skills, I came into the 2016-2017 school year with the intent of really maximizing my opportunities to shoot.

I’ll be honest, I spend a lot of time wandering the city alone. I would absolutely consider myself extroverted and social, and I love spending time with my friends, but on photography trips, it’s nice not working on anyone else’s clock. The other caveat of adventuring with other people is that they inevitably want you to photograph them. I know this sounds whiny, but when I go out and explore places, I usually want to document the places I’ve been, not the people I see on fairly regular basis. Regardless, as a result of my solo adventures, I’ve come up with a list of some of my favorite spots for photography in LA (with pictures included, of course).

  1. Arts District, DTLA
  2. Griffith Park/Hollywood Sign
  3. Santa Monica
  4. Walt Disney Concert Hall, Financial District
  5. Pershing Square/Grand Central Market

It really is amazing being able to live so close to all these amazing spots- I’ve genuinely fallen in love with LA after living here for almost two years. Check out my other post about my favorite things to do in the city here.

Fight on,
