This Friday I volunteered at the California Science Center, across the street from USC, for Day at the Museum. It is an event where hundreds of students from local middle schools get to learn about Ecosystems and check out the space shuttle, Endeavour.
Several SHPE members from both USC and UCLA came along and we did our best to answer questions the young students had, even though we do not work at the science center. We walked them through the Museum and interacted with them a great amount.
We also did our best to encourage students to go to college and it is great hearing younger kids talking about how excited they are to attend USC or go to college for the matter. It is important to be that bridge between a low income community and a top tier institution such as USC for the younger students. Simply talking to them about college or asking them what their passions are and giving them ideas about how to apply their interests in the professional world can inspire them beyond measure.
Had a great time talking to the students and I even got to see Endeavour so that was awesome.
Fight On!
