While I am involved in numerous student organizations at USC, one of my favorites is definitely the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). SWE is a great organization that brings together women in engineering through corporate, social, and community service related events. I have been a member of SWE since my freshman year, joined the Officer’s Council as the historian on the External Relations committee last year, and now as a junior I am the Vice President of External Relations. I’ve met some of my closest friends at USC through SWE, which makes going to each SWE event even more fun. Last year I had the opportunity to go to Chicago for the SWE Annual Conference with the Officer Council, which was my first time visiting Chicago and attending the conference! You can read more about that here. I’m looking forward to going back to the conference this fall, this time in Houston (I’ve also never been to Texas before, so this should be fun). Be sure to look for that blog in November!

SWE has gotten off to a great start this year, with our Officer’s Council retreat to Lake Arrowhead, a yacht party for all our members, and our Professional Development Night and Fall Evening with Industry, where we networked with many of the company representatives from the Viterbi Career Expo. Later on this month we have our major community service event of the semester, Halloween Fun Fair, where we bring local elementary and middle school kids to campus to do Halloween themed science experiments and projects. This was one of my favorite events last year, and I can’t wait to volunteer again this year!
