It can be all to easy to become caught up in the fast-paced lifestyle of USC and the surrounding area, between classes, sports, club involvements, and all the other activities that keep us busy in day-to-day-life.
As I write, I’m on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, a train that travels up the beautiful Pacific Coast from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. Not only is this quick weekend trip a great way for me to visit friends from back home in Colorado that go to school at Cal Poly, it’s also a great way to recharge. It’s essential to be on top of every aspect of your life when you’re constantly adapting to every new day, and an integral part of staying centered, as I’ve mentioned before, is making sure that you take care of yourself.
The weekend in San Luis Obispo consisted of some sightseeing, surfing (finally!), and also some occasional homework. Another huge benefit to the train compared to driving is the extra time you have to be productive, and sit back and relax without dealing with LA traffic on Friday afternoons!
Whether it is a staycation, a day trip, or even an afternoon off, investing some time in yourself and your well being really helps pay off in the long run. If you’re spending four years of your life in an area, make sure to get to know much more than just the campus! And best of all, exploring is one of the easiest, and most exciting, investments you’ll get to make during your time at USC.
Fight On!
