Hi everyone! Can’t believe it’s finally fall in LA, we had our first cold day today!  Fall always brings new experiences, and something new that I’m doing this fall is interning with Webcor Builders in Downtown LA, less than a ten minute drive from my apartment.  It’s been an amazing experience so far, and I can’t wait to get more into it.  It’s something that I came across at a Viterbi networking event, so I figured I could give some of my insight into how I’ve had such a great experience connecting with people here at USC.

Many of my civil engineering classes require me to collaborate with my classmates.  Because of this, my group of best friends now consists of 4 other civil engineering seniors here at USC.  Through them, I’ve been referred to academic clubs, design teams, research labs, classes, professors, and so much more that I would have possibly missed out on if they hadn’t helped me find it. They’ve referred me to employers and mentors that have completely changed my undergraduate career.  I didn’t know it, but making friends in my major has been one of the most productive things I’ve done here at USC. Not to mention they make classes way more enjoyable!

And of course, there’s the connections that I’ve made through clubs here.  Whether it was getting design experience with a engineering society, or simply meeting inspiring students in club meetings, I am so thankful for the insanely huge amount of experiences that I’ve been offered during my four years here.  I even had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with a USC admissions employee through my sorority.  If there’s any advice I could give my freshman self, it would be to join a club if it even slightly sparks your interest. You’ll never regret it, and it’ll just add to the familiar faces that you see around campus.

I’ve written about the career fair and similar events before, and I’m so glad to be one of the many people that secured a job from the Viterbi career fair this semester.  I made so many connections for now and for after graduation, and I couldn’t feel more prepared to take on the real world.  I wish I could go back and tell freshman me that it all turns out perfectly!  Hopefully I’ll be back soon with even more great updates on the connections and mentors that I’ve been able to find!
