You heard it here first: PHED129a is the best choice for a 1-unit class. I took this class for fun last semester as a way to work-out and keep my body moving. It was held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 50 minutes each time. For the first portion of the class we were out on USC’s very own track. I loved being able to spend time outside in the Southern California sun during my day. We got to run and do various exercises around the track which always manage to get my heart rate up. The next portion of the class was in the Lyon Center where we did indoor cardio exercises like step aerobics. At first it felt like being in an old-school workout video, so it was fun to try something new and outside of my comfort zone.

After the transition to online during Spring 2020, my professor took the time to still make the class great! We would all get together on Zoom to do some exercises and get a nice stretch in. So online or in-person, this is a course I recommend 100%.

If you don’t have extra room in your schedule, these are some ways I like to get up and active during the semester:

-Run around the perimeter of campus (2 miles exactly!)

-Get the USC Gym Pass and take group classes

-Try a new workout class near USC like boxing (first class free at some places!)

-Find a hike in Griffith Park or around LA

-Hit the beach (that counts as exercise, right?)
