Gone are my lazy summer days. When summer began, I would get up at noon and lounge around the apartment aimlessly. But just last week, I began my first week of training at my internship with Deloitte. While I dread having to rekindle my relationship with my alarm clock (hello 6:30am wake-up calls), I have to say I’m pretty stoked to start this new chapter of my summer. Here’s what else I’ve been up to…
My family visited me in LA (from the Philippines) and we decided to take a few road trips around the area. We hit up the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Las Vegas, and the Bay Area. First up, Grand Canyon. Man was it a sight! I can imagine hikers would go bonkers for the trails that go off the edge of the cliffs, but even with my mom and little brother who were deathly afraid of heights, we had a pretty darn good experience. We hiked the Bright Angel trail (medium difficulty) and the Rim Trail (easy stuff), woke up for the sunrise, stayed out for the sunset and spotted wildlife here and there. The trails are just breathtaking. Everywhere you look, you take in a new angle of the south rim of the canyon. The colors were brilliant red, maroon, green and brown, sweeping the canyon in layers. This is a sight you’ve got to see at least once in your life!
We made a pit stop in Vegas before heading back to LA. When we were back, I showed my family around campus and gave them my version of a USC tour. We drove up to the Hollywood sign, went to the beach and enjoyed the good weather.
Last stop, Bay Area. We also spent some time in Lake Tahoe and were lucky enough to have caught the last of the snow showers! Bob sledding anyone?? Unfortunately there wasn’t enough snow for skiing. But hey, this is good enough for the month of June!
More recently, I scored tickets to see Cirque Du Soleil at the Kodak Theatre next month and watched a live taping of So You Think You Can Dance last week! Never a dull moment around here.
And that brings us to the present, where I’m back to hustlin’ and bustlin’ at my internship. The drive from the USC area to downtown even during rush hour isn’t as bad as I expected! (sigh of relief) Driving to the office takes about 15 minutes, so I can’t complain.
Side note — I just saw Super 8 and loved it! Love the cast of kids, especially Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney (the leads). I definitely recommend it. Just don’t compare the movie to E.T. the way critics have… Take the film for what it is and don’t spoil it by making comparisons! That’s it for now. Hope you’re having a fantastic summer!! 🙂
