Hey guys!

Happy E-Week! This week is all about celebrating engineering.  I have loved learning about engineering so far, and can’t wait to continue my education in this diverse and challenging field.  I’m constantly solving problems that can affect a lot of people.  My favorite quote is that “Scientists discover the world that exists, engineers create the world that never was.”

Many of my classes have had lab components and I’ve also had the opportunity to work in two different research labs on campus, but my favorite hands on experience so far has been this semester in my chemical engineering lab class!  This class is dedicated to utilizing the concepts we’ve discussed in our theoretical based classes and applying them to real problems.  So far we’ve done mass transfer, fluids, and corrosion, and will do a total of 9 labs this semester.

Not only is it great experience to have hands on experience, it’s really fun! I’m on a team with three of my best friends in chemical engineering, and we have a great time doing the labs together.  It’s also a great time to practice teamwork and how to work with other people.  For each lab, we have to write  an extensive lab report- usually around 20-30 pages, so being able to delegate and divide up the work is crucial.  Developing this skill of working on a team will be so critical in all of my future endeavors.
