Hey Everyone! This week seems crazy with presentations, midterms, and projects, so before it gets too intense I wanted to share a little bit about what I’ve been doing this year on the executive board for AIChE! I’ve loved being on the board this year as Freshman Relations Officer and working towards getting freshmen chemEs more involved in events on campus. I’ve loved having a more prominent role in this organization and having more control over what types of events we put on.
One cool event we have been planning for this semester include an emphasis panel of seniors to go over what all the different options (petroleum, nano, environmental, etc.) really mean and what types of careers these students are looking at. We are hoping to give underclassmen a better idea of how to focus their studies. We are also planning a Hollywood sign hike and various field trips to different chemical engineering companies nearby.
One project that I’m focusing on is helping to plan the annual senior dinner. We have put together a committee (a great way to get involved on a smaller scale!) to plan and execute this event. It’s a great way to celebrate all of the accomplishments of the senior class and let them have fun together at the end of a successful college career. I was on the planning committee for this last year as well and it was a very exciting event.
Being on the board has been a great experience. I’ve gotten to build great relationships with the other members of the board, develop leadership skills, and really get to utilize my ideas to make the chemE community a better place.
Here’s a short video from our last board meeting!
