As an out of state student, it’s always so much fun to take my parents around LA when they come to visit me. This past weekend my parents flew in from Georgia to spend the weekend with me
On Friday afternoon my mom and I went shopping at The Grove (check out my previous blog about The Grove here) to buy professional clothes for my upcoming job interviews. Afterwards, we picked my dad up from the airport and headed to downtown LA. Since my dad is originally from Germany, I took my parents to Wurstkuche–a fun restaurant that serves all sorts of interesting German sausages. Although I wasn’t brave enough to try the rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, I still had a great time.
The following day we headed down to Balboa Island in Newport. We spent the day walking around the island, checking out all the sailboats in the harbor, and eating the local speciality…chocolate covered frozen bananas!
While we were walking around we saw a sign for a whale watching boat tour, and on a whim we decided to sign up. I actually wasn’t expecting to see any whales, so you can imagine how surprised (aka frightened…) I was when a HUGE blue whale surfaced right next to our boat. Besides the blue whales, we also saw literally hundreds of dolphins and a few sea lions on our trip. I’m so glad my family decided to go on an impromptu adventure!
