The society of Women Engineers is national organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the fields of STEM and focused on poising its members to be the future leaders of these fields. SWE USC has a very strong presence at Viterbi, being the largest organization on campus, and I am very happy that I managed to get involved early on during my freshman year as SWE freshman ambassador. This year I serve as a leader within the organization as part of SWE’s officer council and so far the experience has been amazing! I’ve gotten so much closer to so many members of the organization through both the planning and the execute of many SWE events! Which brings me to my favorite event of the year so far…
The 2018 SWE Social! An evening of being bused off to a surprise location in cocktail attire surrounded by other fellow SWE members ready to let their hair down in a night of fun and dancing! This year’s surprise location was at a venue Candela, a Mexican food restaurant which doubles as a dance club. SWE members had the entire second floor to themselves, outfitted with flashing rainbow lights, delicious finger food, and a personal DJ!
The night was a smashing success! SWE members danced the night away for up to two and half hours before dragging their weary to feet back onto the bus and back to campus. I had such a great time watching new and old members chat and connect and mad some new friends myself. It’s amazing to think that only thing that brought so many different people together like this was a shared passion for the field of engineering and it’s this thought that will keep me a motivated leader in the organization no matter how many hurls college life might try to throw at me!
