Last Friday (January 29th), my boyfriend and I went to the Joffrey Ballet‘s presentation of “Cinderella” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown LA. It was my Christmas/birthday present from him and a chance for us to have a formal date for once, instead of just making dinner and doing homework together, which is also great in its own way. Getting there was a bit stressful, because we told the cab to meet us on the corner of campus and when we got there we saw a group of kids climbing into our cab. When we called the company back, they told us that we would have to wait another 20 minutes for a cab – and we didn’t have 20 minutes! Fortunately, our friend JP saved the day by driving us to the theater. We drove up just as they were making the last call for seating. It was perfect timing.

The show was beautiful – since I studied ballet for 8 years, I really appreciated the intricate solo work and the grace of the corps de ballet. Luckily for Jesse, there was also plenty of slapstick comedy due to the 2 stepsisters (played by men). He stayed awake the whole time and, at the end, decided that he had enjoyed it!

After the show we took a cab to L.A. Live, where we feasted on a delicious Mexican food dinner (as well as the spiciest salsa I have ever tasted) and then took the free USC shuttle back to campus. It was a great way to end the week and yet another reminder of why I love going to school in the middle of Los Angeles.
