As I’ve mentioned, I have been working on my group project for my Building Science class (check out here and here)! After a long two months, my group finally got to present our project last week! Our midterm project was to entirely design a beach house in Malibu both architecturally and structurally. We nicknamed ourselves team triangle, because we had to design a house that was triangular!
For our presentation we had to discuss our site selection, design ideas and inspiration, seismic/wind calculations, and our beam and column design. We had to compile all our architectural and structural drawings and hang them on the wall while we presented. We also had a large stack of calculations we turned in!
Even though we just finished our midterm project, we have already begun working on the final project which is due on the last day of school. The final project is very similar to the midterm, except we have to add steel cantilever columns. This addition will allow us to extend the large glazing we have facing the ocean. Check out some of the drawings from my project!
Finally, we had to make a scaled model of our house which I took the lead on. I made it so that the roof and the second floor could be removed so that you could see inside the entire house. Check out the model below!
I’m looking forward to making our final project even better than the midterm project. For the final we will be presenting to architecture and engineering professors, as well as people from industry so we will have to make sure we are prepared!
