As April almost comes to a end, looking back it was a very busy month! I had a lot going on for both classwork and extracurriculars, and it seems like every year April is always hectic! Here is what I have been up to the past few weeks!
1. Hockey Tournament in Vegas
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m the captain of USC Women’s Ice Hockey team (check out here for more info on that), and this past weekend both Ellen and I headed to Vegas for our annual tournament. Since we are the only collegiate team on the West Coast, we have to travel for competition! The tournament in Vegas is always one of the highlights of my year! Not only do we get to play a lot of hockey, but we get to bond as a team! This year we stayed at the Excalibur, which is a hotel that looks like a castle! Although we didn’t win the tournament, I’m proud of how the team played. It was great to see how far all the newbies have come and how much they have improved in just a few months. It seems like everyone fell in love with hockey this year, so I know next season is going to be great!
2. Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC)
I’m involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), as both the social chair and a member of the concrete canoe team (more info on ASCE here)! Every year our chapter attends PSWC, which is a competition between 15 other universities in a number of different events such as concrete canoe, steel bridge, environmental, concrete bowling, transportation, surveying, geowall, scavenger hunt, basketball, and ultimate frisbee. Unfortunately for me, PSWC took place the same weekend as my hockey tournament so I was unable to attend which was really disappointing. However, I’m extremely proud of how well my friends did! We spend the entire year preparing, with me specifically helping out with concrete canoe (check out here to see pour day!). It’s always really rewarding to see our hard work pay off and celebrate our results. This year we placed 3rd overall at the entire conference, and got 5th in canoe! 5th is the highest we have ever placed in canoe, so it was really exciting to be a part of the team this year.
3. ARCH 305B Semester Project
As a building science major, I take a class in the architecture school every semester. This semester we have been working on a semester long project where we are designing a two story commercial building both structurally and architecturally. My group has decided to design a community arts center, which would offer a variety of classes in music, art, and theatre. The project is due a week from today, so we are spending the next week finishing up so we will be ready to present! Next week I will have photos to share of the final project and I’ll have an update on how the presentation went!
