Hey everyone!

This week was the ISE Annual Banquet, an end of the year celebration for undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students in the ISE major, as well as ISE faculty and staff.

As the Programming Director for the USC Chapter of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), my job was to plan everything about the event, from the menu to the venue. This event was like my baby, and although it was a lot of work, I really enjoyed seeing months of planning turn into a successful night.

The event was held from 5-8 PM at Town and Gown Ballroom on USC’s campus. The Keynote Speaker was Dr. Carol Peden, who runs the USC Center for Health Systems Innovation. Her talk was focused on innovation and improvement in healthcare with an engineering bent.

The food was amazing. For $20, students and faculty received a three-course gourmet meal and appetizers at the social hour beforehand. Also, graduating seniors and the E-board attendedĀ for free!

After dinner and the keynote, the annual awards were given out. Professor and Teaching Assistant of the Year awards which the student body votes on. Masters and Undergraduate student of the year are picked by faculty.

Overall it was a really great night, and I think that people really enjoyed themselves. Planning this event was an awesome opportunity to gain exposure to high profile speakers and a great way to interact with faculty and staff in a positive way outside the classroom. We had almost 100 people attend the Banquet this year, and I hope that we can get even more people out next year!

Til next time,
