Hey Everyone!

ACA

This week I’d like to talk about one of my favorite organizations on campus- the Academic Culture Assembly otherwise known as ACA. The Academic Culture Assembly, a division of program board, is a programming board that fosters academic diversity and intellectual culture at USC. We put on events to showcase the more interesting sides of academia. Our goal is to promote the diverse academic environment at USC and show students that you can explore your interests in multiple fields of academia. We also bring students into close contact with faculty, especially outside the classroom. In the past, we’ve had such guest speakers as Bill Nye the Science Guy, Grant Imahara, and others as well as holding our normally scheduled events each year. Just a couple weeks ago, we had one of our first events of the year- Beyond Books! Beyond Books is an annual dinner where students can sit down with faculty and talk about what research they are involved with on campus. This is a great opportunity to get a research position as an undergraduate student, and a great way to meet professors that you will be taking classes from in the future.

As a member of the E-board for the Academic Culture Assembly, I get to plan an event of my own- which I am super thrilled and excited about! It will be coming up on November 13th and will be a night of spoken word poetry and cinematography– some hobbies of mine that actually don’t include math or science. Other events that ACA put on include TEDxTrousdale, which is a completely student run and student performed version of TED talks that happens every year. Over two-hundred students usually come out to watch their student peers give talks about the things they are passionate about and how they are making a difference in the world. TEDxTrousdale just so happened to be the first ACA event I went to last year, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Fight on!
