Hi everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your breaks as much as I did. I spent a lot of quality time with my family and even got to hit the slopes for some skiing. I also was lucky enough to watch the Trojans beat Nebraska at the Holiday Bowl! Now I’m back in the groove of things at USC and couldn’t be more excited for what this semester has in store for me. I thought I would give you a little glimpse of what I’ll be up to for the next few months.
First of all, I am diving into four new engineering courses. These include classes concerning circuits, supply chain, data bases, and operations research. I am most anxious to learn more about supply chain and logistics, since I do not have any previous knowledge of this. I already wrote a paper on the supply chain of Patagonia, the outdoor apparel company. It was very interesting to learn about the way in which they make a large profit while remaining a strong proponent for the environment. They make their supply chain process 100% transparent. Not only has their effort to remain green helped the environment, but it also has led to Patagonia’s distinct brand recognition. That is just one fun thing I have learned this semester!
Besides classes, I am still working downtown part-time as a senior engineering intern at Southern California Gas Company. I am currently working on new projects that aim to increase the efficiency and lower costs associated with field employees. Not only have I been exposed to new databases including SAS, but I also get to work alongside a few USC alums! The Trojan Family really does exist after college.
A new role I have taken for this semester is on the executive board of my social sorority. I am serving as the Vice President of Housing. This means that I serve as a liaison between the sorority members and the alumni board that oversees that our home is up and running. I also work closely with the Vice President of Finance to ensure that leases and payments are made on time. It is such an honor to be a leader of a sorority full of over 200 amazing women! I cannot wait to see what else this position has in store for me.
Beyond all of my commitments, I hope to make this semester one of the best ones yet! For spring break, I booked a trip with my roommate to Dublin for Saint Patrick’s Day and London for the remainder of the week. I cannot wait to explore Europe and see all of my friends who are abroad! Be sure to read my blog this semester to learn more about what I am up to. Fight on!
