Hi everyone! I know everyone this week is blogging about their favorite classes on campus, but I thought I would tell you a little bit about one of my favorite organizations at USC, Pi Beta Phi. (If you would like to read about one of my classes, ISE 370, be sure to check out my blog from last week!)
Pi Beta Phi has given me an outlet for stress, a way to give back to the community, and a circle of driven young women to call my best friends. There are so many wonderful opportunities that I have taken part in with this organization. Last Friday, I attended our formal event which is Luau themed. All of the girls wore bright dresses and our dates wore Hawaiian shirts. We went to dinner at a sushi restaurant called Octopus in Downtown LA. Then, we met up to load up the buses and head over to Pink Taco in Century City. This is a very trendy and fun Mexican restaurant in LA. It was a great night of dancing and socializing with one another.
Another great opportunity I have had this year was to attend CAR, which stands for Champions are Readers. As a sorority, we donate funds from our philanthropic service to a literacy program. We volunteer our Friday mornings to teaching third graders at a local elementary school. I was lucky enough to go last week and meet some enthusiastic children. Additionally, I cannot wait for this Friday when we have our Arrowspike event. This is a volleyball fundraiser where the fraternities compete with one another. We sell shirts and use the fraternity entrance fees to help support literacy as well. I can’t wait to see who wins!
Pi Phi has also given me the option to attend fun and motivating work out events with the girls in my house. We hosted a yoga even the other night and had an instructor come to teach us some moves. It was great to get some physical exercise in my day and take away some of the stress from schoolwork. Now, I am off to learn in my ISE classes for the day. Make sure to check out the other Viterbi Student Ambassadors’ blogs to hear about what cool things they are learning in class. Fight on!
