At the end of the last day before spring break, I headed to one of the most popular spots in Los Angeles: Santa Monica!  One of my favorite activities when I head off campus is to simply walk around/window shop and of course grab something to eat.

While the beach is great for the morning and afternoon, when the sun sets I head to the shops.  Santa Monica is home to Third Street Promenade, a bustling hub of well known stores from Apple to Anthropologie to Puzzle Zoo.  It’s a great place to head with friends and shop around for clothes and trinkets or to just play with the latest gadgets.  The streets are free of cars and scattered with benches if you want to take a break and take in the scene.  Often, there are a variety of street performers filling the air with music and bringing a lively feel.

Starting to hear my stomach rumble, my friend and I decided to head over to well Yelp rated: Mercado.  A modern twist on Mexican food, the food at this restaurant was absolutely delicious.  Medium priced, we had a mix of pork and shrimp dribbled with a fresh cilantro sauce.  The ambiance itself was upbeat with everyone buzzing as old friends were excited to catch up.

So if ever at a loss of how to start off spring break — don’t forget we’re in LA!  There’s so much to do and always something new to see and restaurants to eat at.
