When mid-April rolls around, white tents go up across campus and some of the best authors, critics and well known celebrities come to campus. In other words, it’s that time of year for the Los Angeles Times Festival Books!
Each year for one weekend USC hosts the LA Times Book Festival. There are hundreds of booths to visit from getting a book you already own signed to buying a stack for as low as $8 per book. Shows and performances go on through out the day also so that you can sit in on any you interesting. Some of this year’s special guests included John Greene and Alicia Silverstone. My roommate even ran into Adam Sandler!
Some other activities we did, aside from visiting some booths, was watching a few of USC’s a capella groups perform. We also got to listen to one of my favorite professors give a talk about a book he published. It was cool getting to hear another side of his work outside of class. As an antrhopologist, he studied gangs for 18 years, taking note of why people join gangs and how essentially the truth to their lifestyles. It was insightful to hear his personal memories in detail.
All in all it was an awesome day and I can’t wait to see what next year has in store.
