So over this past summer, I decided that, as I am going to be living in an apartment this year, I would not need a meal plan. However, I did not know what this choice meant at the time. I got some pots and pans and cooking stuff over the summer thinking, I might use this to cook something, eventually. When I got to USC, I set everything up in my kitchen, and was pretty optimistic about cooking my own meals. I definitely did not take into consideration how much time I was going to be spending shopping, cooking, and cleaning though…
The first night in my apartment, I made myself spaghetti with some vegetables. I was thinking that it would be pretty simple and easy to do, even though I have never done it before. I ended up realizing through the process that the spaghetti can’t simply sit at the bottom of the pot, as it will burn and stick to the bottom, making it very, very hard to clean. Fantastic :(. But all in all, it went okay.
The next meal, I was feeling pretty confident in my untapped cooking abilities and decided to bake up some chicken. How hard could it be? I just took some chicken breasts, laid them on a pan, sprinkled some cheese and salsa on the top for some flavor and stuck the pan in the oven. Unfortunately, as I was taking it out, the pan wobbled and one of the chicken breasts fell off the pan and landed on the bottom of the oven, getting salsa and melted cheese everywhere. That was fun cleaning up…
My cooking skills reached a high point when I made one of my favorite dishes, chile verde enchiladas. I did everything right and nothing spilled! They were so delicious.
I know I could just go out to eat all the time and save time but cooking saves money and is a lot healthier. Even though it takes some time out of my busy schedule, it is fun and good practice for when I have a family to cook for!
By the way, the BEST thing for breakfast is…
Homemade Pancakes!!
This looks delicious. I’m going to show up to your house for breakfast!!
