What a summer. From a personal growth standpoint, this summer hit a transcendental sweet spot. While it may not have been as fun as Viterbi Abroad, I’ve learned a lot about what matters to me and why, and about my aspirations and goals. This is just to say that I’m a better man than the one who left USC 3 months ago.

I think I have my internship to thank for a lot of this. Working at Cortina Systems in Sunnyvale, I learned an incredible amount about professional life and attitudes in industry. It’s a profoundly different metaphor than academic life: every day I was inventing solutions, not finding them. Often times I would write a solution that derived from something I had learned in a class (EE201 proved particularly fruitful, thanks to Dr. Puvvada). It’s an affirming experience. Throughout my internship I worked under a great man who was a mentor and inspiration to me.

See y’all in 410 miles.

I’m starting my drive down to Los Angeles today. I’m looking forward to seeing all of my friends again. If you’re like me, you met your best friends at college. And I’m looking forward to owning this semester.I feel more driven and confident than I have any semester prior. I guess I always was a 4th quarter player.

Oh yeah, and game day is in 13 days.
