Hey Everyone! Second semester has begun, and classes are in full swing! This semester, I’m taking thermodynamics, mechoptronics B (second semester), iPodia, stress analysis, and sailing! One of the courses I’m looking forward to most is the iPodia class, a class designed to work towards solutions to global problems with an assembly of international students. This semester, we’re working with students from South Korea and from Israel. I can’t wait to see what kind of problems we plan to tackle, and especially what kinds of global perspectives can be gained from interacting on a regular basis with students from all over the world. It’s kind of like getting to study abroad, AGAIN, but from the comfort of home! At the end of the semester we do actually get to go abroad, and will be visiting South Korea for two weeks.

As for extracurriculars, research is going to be my main commitment this semester! We’ve done the design and ordered the parts for our mechanical woodpecker system, so now we just need to machine, build, and run experiments! I’m sure there will be many iterations of the design, and improvements will come, but I’m looking forward to seeing the preliminary results in order to get a better idea of the direction we need to go to alleviate concussive shockwaves in military applications.

It’s going to be a great semester. I’ll keep you updated with exciting news throughout the semester!
