Winter break is always a great time to simply take a load off and enjoy just sitting at home with your friends and family. Don’t get me wrong, I love being at SC, but there is literally no place like home. The older you go along in your years, the more you begin to appreciate it; even if you were the person who is so ready to leave home. Every year I make a bunch of plans to go see friends across the country, but as soon as my plane lands back in Baltimore, all I want to do is stay home and see my friends from high school. This winter break was still eventful and exciting though. Coming in with plans to go off to Mexico turned into simply staying home, playing some video games and enjoying somewhat call winter in Maryland.

The first couple days when I got back, I simply enjoyed them with my family and caught up on the movies I didn’t have time to see. The very first night I got back, I drove up to Virginia to see my cousin Cameron and Rogue One. Never was a crazy Star Wars fan, but honestly I’m starting to become one after this one. If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it.

On my grandma’s birthday, I able to make it to the new African American History Museum in DC. It was one of the most well done museums in DC, but also was one of the largest I’ve been through. We spent about an hour and a half there, but even then, we were not able to go through each exhibit thoroughly. The museum took my family on a path throughout history beginning with the Transatlantic Slave trade all the way through Obama’s presidency. The amount of detail in each exhibit was incredible. Instead of most museums where they have a tour guide, this museum had speakers that guided us every step of the way. We had to leave to make it to my grandma’s birthday lunch, but I can’t wait to go back and explore the museum more.

Lastly, I could do a little traveling, but only for a day. I traveled to Chicago to go visit my roommate and watch friends perform at a concert. Chicago is amazing if you’ve never been there. It is probably one of my favorite cities since it has a New York feel without all the people. Don’t get me wrong New York is cool, but I just feel so crammed when I visit. Chicago was the perfect amount of congestion and people roaming the streets even though it was like 10 degrees outside. Throughout the day, I spent time in the city and at night could see my friends perform. Back stage passes are even cooler than you think especially when you are back there with your friends. My friends that performed names are Chris and Hayden, but their stage names are Felly and Gyyps. It was great seeing them perform and I must go again.

My winter break was full of fun and I made the most out of my last college winter break. I got to see shows, family, friends and my couch. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for more.
