Aerospace Engineering is a pretty small major within the Aerospace Mechanical department. The intro to aerospace class with all of the freshmen aerospace majors starts out with about 25-30 students, and eventually after people switch in and out of the major it gets down to about 20 people. Aerospace is very closely related to Mechanical engineering with only 5-6 class differences. Being in the Aerospace program gives you the best of both world, you get to have some small classes with your aerospace community and also get to know people in the much larger mechanical engineering department. The main differences in the program come from aerospace being more design and programming focused.
