Hi everyone!
I hope your summer is going well. I’m just wrapping up my last week at my internship, so by this time, I pretty much have my summer routine down. Here’s what a typical day this summer has been like for me:
- Breakfast – While many software engineers don’t get into work until 10 or 11 am, I like to get an earlier start, so I usually wake up at 6:30 am. I go downstairs and have breakfast looking out over Lake Washington. Check out the views from the house I’ve been living at:
The view of Lake Washington from the roof, where I like to eat breakfast.
You can also see a great view of Mount Rainier on a clear day.
- Gym – After breakfast, I get all of my stuff together for work and head to the gym. The building I work in has a gym on street level, which makes working out really convenient. One of the ways I like to stay active during the school year is swimming at the PED pool, so I’ve been swimming this summer to stay in swimming shape!
- Work – Most of my coworkers come in late and leave late, but I prefer an earlier schedule, so I usually get to work by about 9 am. I spend the morning responding to emails and code reviews from the day before. At 11:30 am, my team has our daily stand-up meeting, where we each talk about what we accomplished the day before and plan to work on today. This meeting is a good way to bring up issues that affect the team and get a general sense of what everyone is working on. Afterwards, my teammates and I usually go get lunch at a food truck nearby. Then, I usually spend the afternoons writing new code or attending meetings.
- Heading Home – I usually leave the office by 5:30 pm and head home to order takeout from one of Seattle’s hundreds of amazing restaurants. Then, I usually spend the evening watching TV or playing video games with my roommates:
That’s about it for a normal day for me. Pretty soon, I’ll be back in my normal school routine on campus. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
