This semester has been one for the books! I have taken some of the most interesting classes since I started at USC, while also exploring this beautiful city. Here are just 10 of my favorite memories from this semester:

  1. Day at the Museum with SHPE

There really is no better feeling that being able to give back to the local community around USC. This semester the Society of Hispanic Engineers brought over 100 elementary school students to the California Science Center to explore the museum and get excited about STEM! I personally loved this because I got to also show everyone what I do every day at work! And we also got to make slime with the students, who really loved it!

2. The Weekender

Having spent an entire summer at UC Berkeley doing research, I couldn’t wait to head up north for the USC v Berkeley football game this semester! I had a blast road-tripping with friends, and showing them my favorite spots in Berekeley. And of course, beating the bears!

3. Concerts in Los Angeles

As a music lover, there really is no better pass time than a live concert. This semester I saw some of my favorite bands live for the first time! I had the chance to see Albert Hammond Jr., Born Ruffians, and Foals! I’m already keeping an eye out for concerts for the spring semester!

What better way to mentally prepare for finals than going to a Foals concert? ?❤️ #30daysinla #foals

4. Friendsgiving

Being an out-of-state students has its ups and downs. Sometimes it means not being able to fly home for Thanksgiving break, but luckily I have a great group of friends who welcomed me into their home to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal. I spent this Thanksgiving with my roommate eating home cooked meals and watching cartoons with other out-of-staters! It really made up for not being able to fly home. 5. A Friendly Visit One of my closest friends from Dallas made a pit-stop in LA on a graduate school trip this semester. I had a blast taking him to the Santa Monica Pier and showing him around campus. He was definitely jealous about the 80 degree weather here in Los Angeles in late November.

6. AHIS-120 Field Trip

This semester I enrolled in AHIS-120: Foundations of Western Art. I learned a lot about how art and culture around the world have evolved throughout history. I even had an excuse to visit the amazing Getty Museum for a writing assignment on one of the exhibits!

7.  Spontaneous Beach Trips

You can’t live in Los Angeles and not take the time to enjoy the Pacific coast. This semester was packed with spontaneous trips to Santa Monica for some fun on the pier, as well as trips to Dockweiler for bonfires and s’mores!

8. CED Circles

This semester was my first time being a mentor, and I absolutely loved it. I got the chance to meet some amazing freshmen who reminded me of how far I have come in my own undergraduate career. One of my mentees and I are actually going to be living together next year, I can’t wait!

9. Being on TV

As if beating the Bruins and winning back the Victory Bell wasn’t enough, I also made it on TV during the game! After the game, friends and family sent me pictures and videos of me being thrown up in the air during the traditional “touchdown toss-ups” that happen when USC scores a touchdown!

Finally made it on to national television!

10. SHPE Study Nights

This semester I have served as the Director of Academic Development for SHPE, meaning I was in charge of our weekly Study Nights. From collaborations with VARC (Viterbi Academic Resource Center), NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), the Latino Alumni Association, and even the fraternity Lambda Theta Phi, we were able to provide our members with a great space to study and learn collectively.

Just reflecting on this semester reminds me of how much I enjoy being a Trojan, and makes me just as excited to see what the spring semester has in store for me. But now time to finish off strong with finals and then fly home for some quality time with my family in Dallas!

Talk to you all soon!

Fight on!
