When people talk about USC, they always seem to mention the strong alumni network, the Trojan Family. And it’s true! I got to experience it first hand last Friday, when a USC Alumni, Catherine Tang, gave me a tour of a company I would love to work for in the future, AECOM. AECOM does it all, architecture, construction, consulting, management, you name it. I love their projects so much because they tend to focus on having a good social and environmental impact on surrounding communities. For example, creating the infrastructure for renewable energy throughout the world.
It was such a good experience to meet someone who went to USC, is also Colombian like me, and now holds a position similar to one that I would love to have in the future. She gave really insightful suggestions both on how to make the most of the resources at USC and how to develop yourself professionally. The office was beautiful and had an amazing view of downtown LA. Catherine showed some of her ongoing projects which included designing the Olympic Village in Los Angeles for the 2024 Olympic Games (if they win the bid). Afterwards, she gave me a book with some of the coolest projects AECOM has accomplished and I went to get ice cream at Pressed Freeze, a delicious, healthy alternative for dairy-based ice cream.
