One of my favorite classes so far has been my junior year Building Science Studio. For one year, we had to ability to develop and produce our own project. The only instructions were: design a school. Everything else was up to us!
Naturally, everyone starts to focus on their own interests. There is only 7 people in the class but all of our end products were wildly different due to the different paths we took to complete the assignment. Someone focused on parametric design, another focused on construct-ability of the project, someone else focused on architecture that improved cognitive performance, and I focused on adapt reuse, using an abandoned steel production warehouse in Pittsburgh and building my school inside of it.
None of these paths were prescribed to us but rather the project allowed us to research further into our passions that led us to study civil engineering in the first place!
Check out some of my research and final outcomes of my project below!
(There are 50 more pages to my final portfolio but I think this is enough to give you a good idea of what it looked like and what the design process was like!)
