Hey Guys,
I hope you are having a good week. This week, I wanted to share with you, my favorite student involvement group (JEP).
Joint Educational Program, otherwise known as JEP is a service learning organization on campus that has been around since 1972. This program allows for you to have hands on learning experiences with schools in the neighborhood around USC. It matches you with a local school, studnet or classroom and assigns you a specific job for the semester. You can volunteer as a Mentor, a Peer Advisor or a Teachers assistant.
Last year I worked as a math teacher assistant at a catholic elementary school close to USC. Being a math was very fun and very satisfying. I helped teach the class addition subtraction and fractions.
This semester I decided to work as a mentor for a Kindergartner. His name is Dion and I am in charge of teaching him the alphabet. It is very satisfying because every time I go back to help him I can see the progress he has made. I was given this responsibility since the teacher cannot devote a lot of one on one time with Dion, even though Dion needs it.
I cannot wait until the end of the semester when I can truly see have far Dion has come.
Talk to you guys soon!
