Hi guys! I hope you ended the summer on a positive note. I ended the summer taking some trips to Malibu and Santa Barbara and catching some awesome concerts. I also finished out my internship in North Hollywood and moved into my LA apartment less than a week later to prep for classes. (To be honest, I was secretly thrilled to be able to start using the endless supply of USC/LA snapchat filters again…) Now that I’m all settled in, I thought I’d share some of the things I’m excited for this year!
Football:
As a freshman, there was nothing anyone could say to me that would have prepared me for what game day at USC actually looks like. Tailgates EVERYWHERE. You think I’m kidding? One time I saw people claiming their tailgate spots on campus as early as 7 am for a game that didn’t start until 7 PM (it gets that packed). There are Trojans and Trojan fans as far as the eye can see on every inch of campus, in the coliseum parking and tailgating areas, and in surrounding neighborhoods where students live. I have student season tickets which means I have seats in the student section at every home game, so yeah I’m PUMPED.
Classes:
No really, I’m serious. It might sound crazy, but I’m so excited for my classes this semester. I’m taking Differential Equations (my last Math requirement, yay!), Physics II, General Chemistry, and Introduction to Environmental Engineering Microbiology. The last 3 are labs, so yeah this will be a challenging semester, but on the bright side, I’m taking Stress Management for Healthy Living so I should be pretty zen most of the time. I’m especially excited for my Environmental Engineering class because we’ll be learning about things like how bacteria and microorganisms can eat sludge, oil, and other pollutants from water and how this process can generate energy. When you’re in college, you actually get excited about the little aspects of your major that interest you and remind you why you chose it!
Student Orgs:
This semester I plan to get more involved (and maybe take some leadership roles) in Society of Women Engineers, Environmental Student Assembly, and American Society of Civil Engineers. I’m excited to go camping and take more hikes with SC Outfitters and walk dogs and play with puppies with PAWS. I also joined a social sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, so I can’t wait to get more involved with my sorority sisters!
I also plan to get into meditation, sky dive again, and go to the beach more.
If you have any questions about any of the things I mentioned, don’t hesitate to ask me! Also, follow me on Twitter and Instagram (@JamisonBria) to see what I’m up to on a day to day basis.
