My sophomore year is finally here! The past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic but I am so glad to be getting back into the swing of things here at SC. To round off the summer I continued to work in a research lab here on campus, went to Venice beach for the first time, and I finished off my last weekend with a Disneyland trip. With starting classes comes joining (or re-joining) clubs, jobs, and getting back into a routine. My class schedule is pretty packed, but I am joining quite a few more organizations that are very exciting!
This semester I am planning on getting involved with USC’s 3D printing club 3D4E, the Red Cross club, as well as tutoring math to local high schoolers through USC’s Joint Educational Project. Other than joining new clubs, I have started a job at the business library here on campus. This year I am also involved with a mentorship through Viterbi’s student-alumni mentor program, VSAMP, where I am paired with an alumni working in the BME industry in San Francisco.
As far as classes go, I am still taking a lot of pre-requisites for upper division BME classes, but I am also trying to throw in a few fun classes here and there. This semester I am taking chemistry, calculus III, physics, electrical engineering 150, and a PE class called physical conditioning. These classes have gotten off to a great start and I am really excited to get deeper into this semester.
Some of my favorite things about the beginning of fall semester are all the fun things to do on the weekends. If there isn’t a football game, there is always something to do. These past weekends I have gone downtown to a farmer’s market, went to see the space shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center, jumped off Hermit Falls (a cliff jumping spot near Chantry Flat), and of course, cheered on our team at the first football game of the season!
Overall, this semester has gotten off to a great start, and I am super excited for the rest of the year here at USC!
