One of the reasons why I spend so much of my time doing things for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is because it is one of my favorite student orgs that I’m involved in this year. As I’ve mentioned before…I think… I’m on the Corporate Affairs Committee for SWE. What our committee does is work with company recruiters to plan all of SWE’s corporate events including Informational Sessions, casual Meet & Mingles, and our formal dinner Evening with Industry. Not only has being on this committee allowed me to opportunity to get to know recruiters better in hopes that they may higher me as an intern, but I’ve also gotten the chance to get to know some really great girls.
I’ll admit I may be a little biased, but our committee is hands down the best committee on SWE. We all get a long really well and frequently hang out with each other outside of our weekly meetings. Even though SWE has lots of members, it doesn’t feel that way at all. Since we’re all studying engineering and have a lot of the same classes with each other, I am able to form weekly study group with other girls who are also members of SWE. It’s nice to have such a close knit group of girls who study the same thing as you and can understand what you’re going through. I love the girls in SWE because we work together, we study together, and we hang out together. I would definitely recommend joining SWE your freshman year because a lot of my best friends now are girls I met last year when I joined.
