Hey guys,

Today, I’m going to talk a little bit more about how I got my internship at Abbott Laboratories (check out my other blogs for my experience there!).

It started freshman year when I attended the Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering Corporate Dinner. I met an Abbott recruiter who told me about this cool company that makes medical devices like stents, and my interest was immediately piqued. I chatted with her for a bit about the company, and went on my way.

As a BME, I am quite interested in research. So, for the next couple of summers, I looked into some on campus research opportunities in order to hone my interests and build my skill set. I landed a spot in Dr. Megan McCain’s Laboratory for Living Systems Engineering (which I still research in!). During the fall of my junior year, I went to the Abbott table at the career fair and talked to a recruiter—at this point, I had years of both technical and leadership experiences, and I was offered an interview. The interview took place the following week on campus, since Viterbi has its own awesome Career Services Center.

I’m not saying it was particularly easy to land an internship—it takes perseverance and dedication—but I really appreciate how supportive Viterbi was and how I didn’t even have to leave campus to get the job!
