What’s good, everybody? I’m Andrew, a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering from Pacific Palisades, California On campus, I lead a team, Trojan Robotics, to design combat robots for the popular TV show BattleBots. I’m also president of my social fraternity, Theta Chi. Last summer, I worked at Northrop Grumman and got a lot of hands on experience with 3D printing! In my free time, I love going to the beach, and running out to grab In-N-Out with friends – or, if I’m looking to go out for a longer trip, I love to go snowboarding! My Favorite Places in LA

I interned at Northrop Grumman last summer! I worked in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Department, where I got tons of hands-on experience with industrial 3D printers of all kinds.
I’m president, of my social fraternity, Theta Chi. I’ve learned an incredible amount about leadership and built a strong network through it!
SWE aims to stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders. I’ve met an amazing group of women through this organization, and I love that the USC chapter includes a variety community, social, and professional networking events!

My Major at USC: Mechanical Engineering

My Favorite Classes
I learned about heat transfer systems, entropy, engines, and refrigerators in this class! Definitely one of my favorites; it’s taught me some incredibly useful stuff.
This class was all about how to choose the right materials for a job. Starting from the microscopic level and zooming out all the way to various factory-scale processing methods, I learned all the pieces that go into a material choice and how to balance your options.

My Tips for You

Application Essays

I thought of my college essay as a sort of personal narrative. Try it out, and maybe you’ll realize that writing the essay becomes enjoyable rather than a chore! Also, don’t overthink the short answer section. They’re not trick questions!

Application Extracurriculars

Don’t feel pressured to list every last extracurricular activity you’ve ever remotely been involved in. It’s totally cool just to talk about the few things you’re most interested in.

Two Truths and a Lie

Can you guess which of these are true or false?
True! I got it taken out when I was 12 – who needs ’em anyways?
False! There is a yoga class at USC, but I haven’t taken it – my favorite elective was ITP 479, Cyber Law and Privacy.
True! I’ve played since I was 4, and I’m a big LA Galaxy fan!

My Favorite Shows

  • Parks and Recreation is a classic for me! It’s funny, witty, and each episode is  short enough to help me relax a little in between classes or homework sets!

  • Probably one of my favorite shows on TV right now! It’s fun, lighthearted, and actually got me into the superhero scene! Next stop, Comic-Con in San Diego?

  • The Office never fails to make me laugh out loud. I’ll be honest, I cried a little when *SPOILER ALERT* Jim and Pam got married and when Michael had to leave 🙁 Nevertheless, definitely one of my favorites!
