I started off the summer visiting New Zealand which was truly amazing. There was so much beautifulness packed into such a small area. I really want to study abroad and Viterbi offers programs in both Dunedin and Auckland in New Zealand which I am definitely considering (here is the overall list of locations). We spent around 10 out of the 14 days hiking, which was absolutely incredible.

Repping USC from NZ

I got back around mid-June and right away started at Guavus. Guavus is a large data analytics company that is fully established in the telecommunications sector. I interned for both the marketing and proof of concept teams and was involved with data collection and learned the ins and outs of the company to best help the customer. While working there I learned Python to fully understand Apache Hadoop and the MapReduce algorithms used and collected data to parse and test. I also did sentiment analysis to find ways to aid the customer and competitive market research to help in marketing meetings. It was a great learning experience and I am really thankful to have had the opportunity.

I also was able to go camping on the weekends and visit San Francisco a couple times. Overall this summer was great! I felt super productive with my time working and taught myself HTML by coding my own website. I was also able to really enjoy my time by fitting in some travel and hiking trips. I will admit to missing homework though. I just like to always be busy and after a relaxing summer I am ready to jump into sophomore year!
