I wake up in the morning feeling like…

Not gonna lie, I wake up in the morning feeling like I want nothing more for the sun to set so I can go back to sleep for another 8 hours and not feel like melting in the hot Texas heat. But no matter, I roll out of bed around 7:00 AM and start my day.

“Aarya, why do you get up this early when you do literally nothing all day?”

Excellent question. I’ll respond by guiding your attention to the aforementioned Texas heat and my never-before mentioned weird love for running. See, I quite enjoy running (while listening to podcasts, of course, so I can at least pretend I’m doing something intelligent), but this hobby is quite at odds with Austin summers, where it gets hot at around 8:30 AM. Alternatively, I sometimes do yoga in the mornings, but on those days I can wake up whenever I want because, you know, air conditioning.

“Hey Aarya, after that, what do you do while you do nothing for the rest of the day?”

Well actually, you nailed it. I do nothing. Nothing entails 1) reading about climate change (but also not really because I’ve been trying to get through the same book all summer, not because it’s boring but because I just, you know, haven’t had the time), 2) watch all the Netflix shows (currently have gotten through all of Parenthood, a season of Jane the Virgin, a season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and numerous documentaries), and 3) hanging out with my friends. As intro/extro/labels-are-weird-vert, choice #3 is the most preferred, unless I’m not feeling it. Oh also, I cook. A lot.

“So what do you do when you’re hanging out with your friends?”

I dunno, drink a lot of smoothies. Go downtown, play volleyball while trying not to pass out in 103 degree weather (that’s in Fahrenheit, sorry for being Americentric).

After my crazy eventful day, I usually go to bed between 9:30 PM and 2:30 AM.

In all seriousness, I come back to USC in less than 2 weeks, and I could not be more excited. But you don’t always have to work super hard all the time; it’s okay to take some time off and relax. So if any of y’all wonderful readers feel a little insecure about your choice of just bumming around for a while, don’t. You’ll look back on this summer reminiscing in all the lack of activities you partook in, doing whatever you want on your own terms.
