  1. Women in Engineering

When I first started considering engineering, I remember a few different people being surprised at my choice, remarking that there weren’t too many female engineers. Although this seemed like a big deal to those people while they were telling me, I didn’t think much about it. To me it seemed like just another stereotype — probably based on past truths, but not the rule and definitely not reflective of me....
  2. My Freshmen Dorm: Birnkrant

Freshmen year I lived in Birnkrant Residence Hall, and in my opinion, it’s definitely the best dorm on campus! Birnkrant (or BK lounge as I liked to call it) has traditional style coed dorms with common bathrooms on each floor. The majority of rooms are doubles, but there are also singles and triples that offer even more space and storage than the average double dorm room. I lived in one...
  3. Spring Break, 21st Birthday, and Back to School!

As much as I hoped spring break would last forever, unfortunately it had to come to an end at some point.  For the past three years my birthday has landed sometime over spring break and without fail, it happened again this year.  Luckily, I got to split my time half and half with my family and friends.  I flew home to northern Virginia for the first half of spring break...

Last week, my a cappella group, the USC Troy Tones, competed in the quarterfinals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). Every year, USC hosts the ICCA quarterfinals in Bovard Auditorium, and for the first time in three years Troy Tones competed. A number of schools from around the southern California area came to compete. We had been rehearsing nine or more hours per week since the beginning...

So I basically just blew threw my second week of school. I think it went pretty well. The MLK holiday off was pretty nice, and it made the week go by extremely fast. However, since the week flew by, I can’t say I have all that much to say about it. Unfortunately, my own personal life hasn’t been super exciting. After all, it is only the second week. I’d give...

I cannot believe I got through this past semester with my sanity intact!!  This past summer, I found myself really excited to start my sophomore year.  My schedule was interesting, with my first real Chemical Engineering class, Thermodynamics, and a physics class based around Electricity and Magnetism.  I also took an analytical chemistry class and advanced writing class.  Most students do not take their advanced writing class until later, but...

For the past 3 years, I’ve sung in either USC Concert Choir or USC Chamber Singers, and its been a blast! Although I’m not a great sight reader and I’m terrible at learning difficult rythyms, I do have the dubious talent of being able to sing extremely high. In fact, my only solos for these ensembles have been basically to sustain some note up in the stratosphere. Otherwise, I am...

I don’t know about you, but I can’t study without music. Sitting in silence for hours on end drives me a little nutty. So in order to knuckle down and get through my work, I’ve got to have some good study jams! This blog post is about some of my music recommendations and how I access them. By far my favorite new music experience has been Spotify. Spotify is a program that...

One of the most rewarding experiences of college so far has been singing in my a cappella group, Troy Tones.  I got into Troy Tones in the fall of my freshman year and it’s has been an amazing ride ever since.  We generally perform four or five main concerts a year with a few smaller concerts and gigs on campus sprinkled throughout the year.  In the fall we sing at...

Since fifth grade, I have been playing one of the greatest instruments of all time, trombone.  I was a total “band geek” in school, playing all the way through high school.  My involvement in music has definitely made me the person I am today.  Music is a huge part of my life and I love playing trombone.  Therefore, when I came to USC, I sought out a fun, relaxing, and...
