So what do you want to do with Chemical Engineering? I think I get that question all the time, especially since I am now a junior. And to those people, I tell them, “I truly do not know.”
To be honest, to this day, I do not even know what a chemical engineer does. However, I don’t think its anything bad about my education here at USC, it is due to the sheer amount of things a chemical engineering can do if you look in the right direction.
Initially I applied into USC as a petroleum chemical engineering major because I just believed it would make me the richest. Then I decided I wanted to go into Aerospace industry to work on materials. Then I became interested in Pharmaceuticals and now I am on beats?
I honestly cannot tell you where I will end up, but that is totally okay! As a highschooler I did not even think about what I wanted to do.
BUT I ADVISE YOU ALL, do not pull a Shuntaro. Go out!! Adventure! Figure out what makes you interested, and then go into it! I think you will later realize that time is of the limited resource. What you want to do with that limited resource is important and it helps having an idea what that might be.
What I have realized is that my favorite things are hanging out with kids, listening to music, and adventuring into nature. I do not really know how this is going to affect my career choices, but I am sure my future will be filled with those things I love!
So go figure that out! Take pictures and share these moments with your friends and family. Cannot wait to see the things you guys do!
