The holiday season. The season of giving. What a wonderful time for student organizations to get together and escape from the stress of looming finals ahead of us. Whatever you celebrate, USC has something in store for you.
Whether it be an ugly sweater contest to a huge bonfire in the middle of the lawn, this holiday season is full of adventure.
My first event of this week was my Society 53 ugly sweater contest. It took place in the Widney alumni house which is one of my favorite spots on campus. A little about Society 53, it is a student-alumni organization that hosts events throughout the year to create stronger bonds between students and alumni. These events range from Alumni Networking Nights to our annual SCupper event where alumni take a group of students out to dinner to discuss topics such as school life to career aspirations.
Here is a shot from our ugly sweater contest featuring current Society 53 members and alumni. The greatest part of the event was interacting with fellow alumni and discussing how the campus has changed throughout the years and making plans to grab “Yakitori” with my mentor.
Then the second event I had this week was Bonfires at my social fraternity Sigma Nu. Every single year we dig a hole in the front yard and light a huge bonfire into it and serve hot coco and play Christmas music to get everyone in the spirits for the holiday season.
I am pretty sure everything is up to fire code, but I am not a 100% sure. While this event is an interesting time, throughout the whole week guys in the fraternity raise money for the Fisher House, which helps military families during their time of need.
My favorite thing about the Holiday Season is even though finals are coming up in a week, everyone is able to come together and spend some moments appreciating our school and our fellow students!
