I Love My Bike

Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone! While my team didn’t make it this year, I always have hope that one day I’ll be sitting in the stands at the Super Bowl.

I wanted to tell you about one of my favorite things to do at USC – ride my bike around campus. I’ve grown up riding cruiser bikes at the beach but honestly I wasn’t very good at it until I got to USC. I never realized how big the bike culture was at USC until I visited campus during my senior year and saw tons of students riding cruiser bikes around campus and parking them outside their classes. Once I decided to attend USC, I knew I needed to get an awesome cruiser bike to join the club. Biking is a great way to get around campus quickly, or even to just go for a cruise. I also ride my bike to get groceries, visit friends that live off campus, and other places that are a bit further than I would like to walk.

I started freshman year with a brand new yard sale bike that I painted red, which unfortunately got stolen because I didn’t lock it properly. While that can be a concern for many people considering buying bikes for college, I can assure you my bike getting stolen was my fault, and if I had locked it properly, I would still have it today. While most of my freshman classes were close, some were more of a 15 minute walk, while biking that distance would take me less than 10 minutes. This easily made biking the best choice for transportation!

Since freshman year I’ve brought up several cruiser bikes that I had at my house in San Diego, including a bright blue bike I got for my 17th birthday. Now that I live a couple blocks north of campus, I definitely appreciate having my bike. I can still get to all my classes and meetings in less than 10 minutes, while walking would take 15-20 minutes.

This winter break, I sold one of my older bikes (it had been parked outside for the past couple semesters, so the bike started to rust), and got a new black Schwinn beach cruiser (classic). I added my bike basket, cup holder, flashlight, and foot pegs, and brought my new bike to campus!

While other students may choose to longboard or even walk around campus, I personally love riding my bike around campus and the surrounding neighborhood. Whenever I go home I wish that I could still ride my bike everywhere I needed to go, which isn’t really possible since my neighborhood isn’t flat like USC!

  1. Using a bike to get around campus is fantastic.

I remember when I was on campus bikes were by far the best way to get around.

My campus was really spread out because it was in Northern Ontario, so you could bike for five minutes or walk for 20.

It was an easy decision to make.

Townies are great bikes for getting around campus. Fun to ride, comfortable and you can get some pretty blinged up ones as well.
