Why I Love Living Near Downtown LA

molly-2016 Best of LA, Molly 1 Comment

One of the first things that I saw when I moved into my freshman dorm at USC was the downtown LA skyline. It was beautiful, but mostly I was surprised by how close it is! Only a 5 minute drive or metro ride away, downtown is full of fun things to do. Here are just a few of my favorites!

Events at the Staples Center

The heart of downtown is the Staples Center, where all of the biggest concerts and sporting events are held. It’s home to not one but 3 of LA’s major teams, the Clippers, Lakers, and Kings. And if any huge name in music is playing in LA, you can bet that they’ll be performing here. Plus it’s a great atmosphere with over 18,000 seats!

Weekend Brunch

I head to downtown almost every weekend for Sunday brunch, and I don’t think I’ll ever get to try all of the different places! Some of my favorites are brunch at the Ace Hotel, which is a beautiful building built in the 20’s as a film studio. Another classic is Urth Caffe, where you can get amazing breakfast and lunch food all day, plus some awesome tea and coffee. I’ve got a long list of places that I’ve been hoping to try, so hopefully I’ll update soon!

Almost every block of downtown includes some sort of shop or street vendor, so each time I go shopping downtown it’s a new experience. There’s a whole section of downtown simply referred to as the “fashion district” where you can find a huge variety of clothes and accessories. Even if you don’t have something you need to buy, it’s really fun to walk around! And there’s an outdoor shopping mall at Fig and 7th downtown, with larger retailers such as H&M and Zara. I can get almost everything I need by heading there, plus there’s great lunch spots mixed in with all of the stores!

Downtown LA is one of my favorite places in the city, because it’s so full of things to do! In addition to all of this, there are always seasonal events, small concert venues, and tons of parks to go explore. I love living so close to downtown, and can’t wait to keep finding new things to do there!
