MSI summer internship

My desk at work!

Today marks the last day of an amazing two months interning at MSI General Corporation, a design/build general construction contractor in Southeast Wisconsin.  It’s been an amazing experience, and it went by way too fast!

In the past few weeks, I’ve gotten to visit different construction sites that we’ve worked on, seeing projects from the beginning stages up until their completion. I’ve gotten to read through project files from start to finish and really understand the details of creating a building, from start to finish. We made bids, celebrated when we won new projects, saw every step of the building process, and watched finished projects get moved to the “completion” list. I got to sit in on meetings and interact with contractors, and in the office I helped them build a completely new website from scratch, remembering my time as a freshman in my Introduction to Computer Science class!

My goodbye construction cake!

My goodbye construction cake!

Working at such a small company (30-40 employees) was such a rewarding experience. I got to know everyone in the office really well, and worked very closely with the president of the company. And on my last day, they threw me a big surprise lunch, catered from my favorite restaurant, and my aunt baked me a construction themed cake! I’m so sad that it’s over, but I’m looking forward to coming back and visiting after my senior year!
